Birds of Descent

About this Piece:

One of my favorite and creative works; this one was at first a mistake. You know the “happy accidents”? Well this was sort of one of them. My original Idea was to have streams of color draping from the tree, but another person commented that it looked like the tree was bleeding and that was not at all what I was going for. My solution was to cut out the tree and the cliff side an glue it down onto a new piece of paper. Then I added in the descending birds, duck, and blue color.

I love the rhythm in this picture. The graceful decent of the birds, beginning from the far side of the page where there is only negative space creates an asymmetrical balance. I do not often work with color, but I felt the light blue water edge was the perfect accent to the rest of the black ink drawing. 11 x 8 1/2 in.
